Paris Part 1 | I Wandered As If In A Dream

Marie-Antoinettes faux dairy farm

I had the best time ever on my first trip to Paris, this planned holiday started out as an eleven day road trip, however a certain person who shall remain nameless only discovered two days before we were due to hit the road that his photo driving licence had expired! I know these things happen, but when you have paid for ferries and booked and paid for hotels in five locations and spent months discussing routes and the joy of reaching PARIS on your way back, well one can only splutter into ones tea whilst going very red in the face and trying to maintain a dignified silence for fear of filling with so much hot air that you head skywards and combust like one of Harry Potter's nasty relatives! In the end G came through big time and managed to book last minute flights to Paris and two hotels so we got half the week in Versailles and half the week in central Paris, which was five days more than if we had done the road trip to France, for which I'm now very grateful!!

main gates of Versailles palace

It might seem slightly insane but my first lot of pictures from our first three days in Versailles all revolve around the buildings at the house of Versailles the home to Louis the fourteenth and Marie- Antoinette, we went other places, had nice dinners etc, but for those of you not familiar with the pomp and splendour of the palace I thought you might enjoy a peek. I have been to many old stately homes (as I like old buildings mainly the exteriors weirdly more than the interiors) including those of the Venetian variety but this is the first building and grounds that I actually got goosebumps the moment I stepped through the golden gates. The buildings consist of the main palace and (which we didn't get to view due to queues of up to three hours, we missed the spectacular hall of mirrors, their own personal opera house and chapel amongst other room with titles like the Mars salon ) two holiday palaces! These feature the yellow room and the harp room and there is also a whole faux farm built for Marie Antoinette's amusement so she could enjoy playing milkmaid apparently! The faux farm was like going to hobbit land it was charming beyond reality and on the third day we went to the famous light and water show along with ten thousand other people in the palace gardens from nine till midnight which finished with fireworks.

Marie- Antoinette's favourite harp room in the first  of her holiday palaces

I loved standing around the huge gaping lake whilst jets of water in the centre changed form and pace, from blue to green, to a feathery pink spray and then to a molten red in time to the opera music that trilled from loud speakers, the quality of the sound was so crisp I was sure I would stumble across a whole orchestra sat on the lawn wearing powdered wigs with rouge smudged across their cheeks! But that was not all, a synchronised procession of fat copper flames came to life one by one, then moved so swiftly they gave the illusion of a train steaming down a track. Not sure if that makes any sense, if not I hope you enjoy the photos.

Shiny Happy Packing!

I'm off on a eleven day road trip around Europe in the next five weeks, which is pretty exciting! We are doing big cities and more rural locations too. You can find the yellow suitcase featured here on my Pinterest board amongst other fun objects!
I'm planning to eat lots of cheese and to share some of my first ever outfit posts with you along the way, ( I have just splashed out on a Cannon PowerShot G12, which I need to get familiar with) we are driving to the Alps with a two day stopover in Paris on the way back.
I want to pack really comfy cool layers that won't crease after long hours sat in the car that can be styled up to create lots of new looks.
With so many festivals around the corner I thought you might be curious to see the type of pieces I'm planning on packing for my trip as I'm thinking the whole comfort, crease free, hardworking holiday wear is probably top of your list too if your preparing to do the festival circuit.
My top tip is to stick to a fairly tight colour scheme, mine is going to be mainly blues, oranges and splashes of pink, that way you should be able to build plenty of new looks from less. The mainstay of my holiday wardrobe will include jumpsuits, maxis and lightwear joggers or silk PJ pants, vests plus what you see here.Clothes and accessories are from Monki, River Island, Benetton and Toms. What's your top tip for packing light?

Roadtrip Outfit 1
River Island jumpsuit, will wear with lime green or back toms and layer a shirt over the top

Denim shacket - River Iland to layer over jumpsuits and maxis wear in cooler weather buttoned up with silk PJ pants

River Island pale pink rafia wedges perfect with thin tailored navy jogggers and a white shirt or orange jump suit.

My Top Festival Pieces To Pack This S/S 2012

boohoo.com

Whatever the weather, us die hard festival surfers are begining to think about booking tickets to our favourite festivals for 2012 and stuffing our rucksacs with stylish easy pieces that will create a multitude of looks that reflect what mood we are in. So I'm sharing my top go to festival wear pieces for spring/summer 2012. I had to start with this vibrant skirt, from the resort 2012 Henry Holland collection, it has a little bit of the magic of Peru, Mexico and Tibet woven into its stripey flamboyant fabric that we have come to expect from House of Holland pieces. A plain black or white t- shirt is all that's needed to pull this look together, what could be easier.

How To Avoid Being Stuck In The Mud

Before you get practical about the prospect of heels jamming into mud, black plastic high wedge sandals are the answer or any of the super stylish wellies below (swipe them with your baby wipes to keep your tent a mud free zone) would work just as well as the killer heels features. If it gets a little nippy throw a biker jacket, poncho or heavy cream or ivory knitted cardi knotted at the waist over your t-shirt.

Choose Your pj Top Carfully And It Will See You From Day Through To Snooze Time!

I love the idea of wearing this subtle Marni print PJ top from H&M, with some denium cut offs and these black and white wicker print wellies. Clashing a dreamy floral tote like the one below from Karmal Loop with any print looks very Global, perfect for your festive frolicking.Sling a simple bright pendant around your swan like neck, like this orange wooden faceted version from Hybrid Handmade featured here and throw a sweet brolly over one carefree shoulder (amazon) for good measure and you have a low fuss high impact festival wardrobe. Hoorah!!
