Gorgeous Blog Awards Generously Given

I was thrilled to receive these three gorgeous blog awards, the Awesome Girl award from the very talented Maria Confer of LuLu Letty, her blog is really original and the Stylish Blogger Award from one of my favourite bloggers Koralee of Blue Bird Notes. The way she uses colour is simply breathtaking! Last but not least, I received the Kreative blogger award, from the lovely Lauren of Laurens Loves, her blog is choc full of exciting makeup tips, honest make up reviews and that will melt the heart and loosen the purse strings of the most fickle product user. As well as some great interviews, well worth a visit.
I am a little late in celebrating these awards, as my computer has been poorly for the past four days, so have been nursing her back to health. She now has the all clear, so you can rest assured that you will find lots of fresh juicy Style reads here!

Over The Knee Boots Autumn/Winter are you a Pretty Woman or more Puss in Boots?

Are you itching to wear the new power boot that is so hot for Autumn winter? It comes in many guises, from just over the knee to thigh high. There are a few Style rules that you need to consider unless you really are like some of the larger than life characters featured today. So generally, I would advise steering clear of black patent thigh boots, unless you are really tall and super confident about your ability to dress them down, which is a pretty tough task!If you are around 5.7 in height go for low to flat heeled suede versions with a shift dresses or above the knee skirts, keep the look classy by teaming with textured natural fabrics such as silk, wool or tweed as in my recent Izzy Lane post. The military look is a hot trend this Autumn/ Winter as is padded shoulders. Although these may seem obvious Style choices to wear with over the knee or thigh high boots, this look could easily become a bit of a cliche. Just add military, as you would a expensive perfume, sparingly, through perhaps your choice of hand bag, hat, makeup, or belt. Sewing some new buttons onto a non military style coat, is a great way to create a coat with a military twist, go for soft feminine colours.
OK for those of us who are not long of leg, or our legs are fuller at the thigh, I count myself in this category, rejoice in the huge variety of ankle boots that are around this Autumn/ Winter. Biker chic is huge this Autumn/ Winter and studded boots are a strong trend that has staying power, there are some really pretty ruched variety's around that echo the seasons trend for textured fabric and being playful with clothing proportions. For more petite women, go for pretty neutral colours that won't over power you and team with plain tights in a similar shade. Or if you decide to go for the tough biker ankle boot, wear with a soft wool dress or a fluid three quarter length jump suit and keep accessories to a minimum. Remember the lower the ankle boot the longer your leg will look, this is great for women with heavier legs, the longer your leg appears, the sleeker and more shapely it looks, simple fashion maths! Hope you enjoyed my mini masterclass on how to wear the latest boot trends. For over the knee styles featured here, see Top Shop and for the ankle boots visit the Office see you soon.

Now you have been tagged have fun

Hi there, I was tagged by the lovely Koralee from Bluebird notes, I'm a bit new to all this, but have posted a few of my favourite things on here in response and tagged 5 bloggers below, for you to visit, in no particular order, it was pretty tough choosing!!! Some of my favourite things are slightly bizarre i.e I love red cranes, it's hard to explain why, they just look so majestic and purposeful against the blue sky. They make me feel like anything is possible! When people smile, who doesn't love that! The Nepalese people are famed for being one of the most friendly people on the planet. My father is Nepalese so I guess I am slightly biased. Any excuse to bake a cake, it sooo therapeutic and satisfying, the smell wafting through the house, the anticipation of whether it will rise to perfection. I'm making a huge gooey chocolate cake for youngest sons birthday on Monday, yay! Sitting with my friends enjoying a drink on a sunny day, by the canal side, in my beautiful home town of Lancaster. Last but not least, I adore eating a Ben and Jerry's ice-cream in the cinema, Phish food is yummy, but I like the marshmallow and polar bear variety. They are true ice-cream visionaries, whats your favourite flavour?
Now My Passport to Style, will tag 5 new blogs for you to visit below.

Izzy Lane Ethical Clothing Company - A Yorkshire Pioneer Is Born

I am so excited about introducing you to Isobel Davies from Yorkshire, the founder of Izzy Lane an ethical couture wool clothing line. A vegetarian, with a vision for uniting her passion for saving sheep from slaughter that didn't quite make the mark, whilst breathing new life into the British textile industry.Izzy lane cloth is woven at an ancient mill in Selhir using Victorian machinery, that has been in operation for well over a hundred years. The ethically based company use fleeces from sheep that have been saved by Izzy and now live out their days at the sheep sanctuary which Izzy first founded. The fleece from Wensleydale and Shetland sheep are used to make the wools necessary to achieve such quality luxury apparel as well as the fleeces from Scottish cashmere goats. These beautifully tailored pieces, I have selected, have not a hint of heaviness about them, wool is wonderful as it breathes. I have for some time now had a fixation on natural fibres, my close friends choose clothes in fear of me feeling the fabric of the item they have happily selected and reciting my usual mantra of, is the fabric a breathable fibre? i.e a cotton or a wool mix, if not it will wash like a rag after one wash, cling to all the bits you wish it didn't and crease within two minutes of your wearing. Quite simply I'm a bit of a fabric snob, I think natural fibres generally makes us feel nice when we wear them and keep us smelling nice too. They are far superior to man made fibres at keeping us warm in cool weather and cool when the sun ever decides to show its face! Here endeth my fabric sermon. But what do you think? Or do you even care? Man made or natural fibres, what works best for you? Visit http://www.izzylane.com/Sharon x

Alternative Wedding Styling - Flats V Heels?

Hi there,
hope you had a great weekend, thought I would try and brighten up the day of any brides to be, or mothers of the bride wanting to achieve a more alternative look, by offering you some hot wedding shoe flats from wait for it, Top Shop.Yes you heard right, Top Shop I believe, have cleaned up when it comes to great value alternative wedding pumps. So what prompted my desire to post about alternative wedding flats? Well a recent conversation with a friend of mine who has been to a fair few weddings in his time, deduced, that wet weather = wet ground + heels = disaster, and are not sadly a marriage made in heaven. What could be more undignified than your heels sinking slowly into the muddy terrain of the beautiful grounds of your Wedding, giving you the ungainly gait of of a pelican on marsh ground. I speak from bitter, sweet experience, I decided for my Wedding, to go for sequined Ivory flats.Booked on the 19th of August I optimistically assumed, it would be a sunny day, with me frolicking across the lawn, captured by our Wedding photographer as I played croquet with our Wedding guests. Did this happen ? No, because, yes you have guessed it, it drizzled there were puddles and there was a brides worst nightmare mud! We managed to get some decent shots outside, despite this and I was so glad, I didn't have to contend with uprooting each of my feet from muddy grass.Lesson learned! On the other hand, I do understand that some of you alternative Wedding gals out there, who are petite might wish to look slightly taller. I say go for a slim wedge every time, not only that, it will be easier to contend with slippy parquet floors, when dancing.
My top picks of alternative Wedding Wear shoes from Topshop, could easily become the staring point for a whole host of alternative bridal looks. With studded white or cream leather versions that are now in store, being the starting point for pretty punk or Queen of Rock looks, the crochet pink flats featured, would work really well for romantic Gothic brides, metallic flats are great for achieving a contemporary feel, the pink heart flats are up to the minute Vivian Westwood, with out the price tag! It goes with out saying that flat pumps are the perfect accompaniment to empire line bridal or mother of the bride dresses, but this is obviously a more classic than alternative look. Which ever bride you are, have fun! You have the added satisfaction of knowing when you select a flat pump, from this Autumn/ Winters range of shoes, you will be able to wear your wedding shoes again this Autumn/Winter, as I did on my honeymoon in Venice. I received the biggest compliment ever, from a local Venetian woman who loved my flat mules and wanted to know where I bought them!! It gave me a great feeling to think I had picked up the perfect bridal shoes up for just £7.00! Sometimes life is really sweet, have fun, browsing. Sharon x

Sew A Needle Pulling Thread, Tea a Drink With Jam and Bread.....

Hi Ladies, this a special blog inspired by the noble art of sewing. Many woman across the country, right now as I blog, will no doubt be reinstating their sewing machines, after all nothing can be more satisfying than producing your own unique creation. My first sewing project was a gingham apron, that was followed by a whole string of teddy bears and a heart shaped draw scenter, not quite couture, but all good stuff for cutting your teeth on and I felt that flush of pride, that is so addictive. My favourite and most recent project was a making a bag for a friend from a gorgeous jumper. If you are a really keen dress maker, but need a little guidance on the kind of Styles you should be investing in making, which will suit your unique body shape and colouring, perhaps you might benefit from a Style Consultation.Do feel free to email me at sharonstyle@fsmail.net. I hope you love these images as much as I do, the pin cushions are so cute. I would love to see any recent sewing projects you might have, please feel free to email them to me, if you would like them posted on this site. Hope you have had a great weekend. Sharon x
